Scalabor Bruist 2026

Collaboration between Introdans, Scalabor, ArtEZ and Musis

A new edition of Scalabor Bruist! In September 2026, Introdans will spend a week collaborating with second-year students from the ArtEZ Dance Artist programme, employees of social development company Scalabor, and partner Musis to create a short choreography. The project is led by Adriaan Luteijn, choreographer and Artistic Initiator of Interaction & Inclusion at Introdans.

Adriaan Luteijn: “The most important message I want to convey is that dance and creative self-expression through movement are for everyone. It should not be confined to a particular body type, background, life opportunities, personal challenges, gender, or physical condition. This belief is also what brought me to Scalabor. They are one of the many partners we work with to reach people within the social and community sector. Over the years, while creating contemporary dance productions, I have discovered that you can create remarkable work with people from all walks of society. On the one hand, we have our academically trained dancers, who belong to the absolute world elite. Alongside them on stage are people whom audiences would not necessarily expect to see in a theatre. Bringing together two completely different worlds creates fascinating artistic chemistry for me as a maker. During such a week, we embark on an adventure together without knowing where it will lead. We improvise, transform everyday tasks into movement, and allow participants to experience that they really can dance.”

Throughout the week, empowerment, connection, collaboration, knowledge sharing and openness take centre stage. The idea behind Scalabor Bruist is that everyone can dance, regardless of age or physical limitations. Employees of Scalabor are introduced to artistic participation and a meaningful creative experience. The second-year dance students become more aware of social issues and gain insight into realities beyond their immediate environment. Together, the four organisations exchange knowledge and expertise on inclusive working methods and production practices.

“It is inspiring to see what we can achieve together when each organisation contributes what it does best,” says Hans Verbugt, Director of Musis & Stadstheater Arnhem. “Through our strategic partnership with Introdans, we want people to experience what it feels like to discover their own strength through collaboration with others,” says Laura van der Brugge, Director of Scalabor. “That sense of connection is truly part of Introdans’ DNA,” adds Marieke van ’t Hoff, Director of Introdans.

Participant Guetjens reflects: “In a very short time, you suddenly grow close to one another and feel a sense of connection, even if you may not understand each other’s language. That in itself is fascinating. You break through fixed patterns and within two hours you are chatting together as if you were family.”
Noortje Bijvoets, Head of the Bachelor of Dance programme at ArtEZ University of the Arts: “It remains quite extraordinary that three rather different organisations are able to create something like this together, and that in such a short period of time something so beautiful emerges.”

Scalabor Bruist is a collaborative project by Introdans, Scalabor, ArtEZ and Musis. It is part of De Dansverbinding++, an Introdans programme, and is made possible with support from the VriendenLoterij Fonds, VSB Fonds and the Fonds voor Cultuurparticipatie.
