Large-scale youth production with dance, theatre and music

Sacre

A large scale youth production by Theater Oostpool, Introdans, Orkest Phion and Musis & Stadstheater Arnhem, in collaboration with Nationale Jeugdorkesten Nederland.

A century ago, Igor Stravinsky shook the art world with a pagan spring sacrifice. Now a group of young people from the east of the Netherlands stomp the spring out of the ground in their own powerful ritual. A bold response to Stravinsky’s masterpiece, where dance, theatre and live music come together.

From feared to beloved
In Le Sacre du Printemps (1913), composer Igor Stravinsky portrayed an ancient Russian spring ritual: a young maiden is chosen to dance herself to death as a sacrifice to appease the gods. With unheard of pounding rhythms and harsh sounds, he ushered in a new musical era. Combined with the innovative and intense choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky, it became a revolutionary work of art.

A contemporary Sacre
More than a hundred years later, Le Sacre du Printemps continues to inspire new generations. With SACRE, leading Arnhem companies Orkest Phion, Introdans and Theater Oostpool join forces with Musis & Stadstheater Arnhem and dozens of talented amateur young people dancers, actors and musicians to create their own spring ritual. A performance that stimulates the mind and bursts with energy, for both the seasoned art lover and the curious teenager. Rise up against the existing order and let yourself be swept along in this contemporary SACRE.

SACRE is a co production by Theater Oostpool, Orkest Phion, Introdans and Musis & Stadstheater Arnhem, in collaboration with Nationale Jeugdorkesten Nederland.
