Midsummer Night's Dream: a theatrical color explosion
Toneelgroep Oostpool, Introdans, Phion, Orchestra of Gelderland & Overijssel and Musis & Stadstheater present a grand and hallucinatory theatre spectacle: Midsummer Night’s Dream. The famous Shakespeare classic in a completely new production with 12 actors, 12 dancers and 13 musicians on stage.
Ban on sleeping
The romantic comedy Midsummer Night’s Dream is set in Athens, where life is all about being productive. Sleeping in the city has been banned for 30 years. In search of freedom and intimacy, four young lovers try to escape this rule imposed by older generations and flee into the woods. There they fall asleep for the first time. Surrounded by mythical forest creatures and a club of actors, they surrender to the intoxicating forces of imagination, life and love.
Three performing arts diciplines
With this meeting between the three disciplines – directed by Daria Bukvić, with musical direction in the hands of Joris Nassenstein and choreography by Regina van Berkel – Midsummer Night’s Dream will be an unforgettable evening. Recently, the performers, director, choreographer, musical director, costume designer and set designers met for the first time. After a presentation of all the artistic plans, the actors did a first reading of the script. Rehearsals are now in full swing.
“In these strange times, we long for celebration and physical contact and that is exactly what Midsummer Night’s Dream brings: an orgasmic explosion of color and exuberance. Together we celebrate the power and pleasure of love, touch, art and imagination.”
Daria Bukvić
Midsummer Night’s Dream will be touring theatres in Gelderland, Overijssel and Utrecht from March 26th until May 28th.
