Arnhem – July 2, 2026
Following a European public procurement procedure, Amsterdam-based KRFT Architecture studio has been selected to design the new Introdans House in Arnhem. The planned location for the new rehearsal building is on Beekstraat, adjacent to the renovated Stadstheater and bordering the future Urban Oasis. With their design vision, Between city and silence, KRFT convinced the selection committee through its strong integration of city, landscape and dance, its sensitive response to the site’s historic context, and its ambitious relationship with the future urban oasis. This marks an important milestone in the development of a new cultural heart for Arnhem.
The new Introdans House will be much more than a rehearsal facility. It will serve as the home of one of the Netherlands’ leading contemporary dance companies, an inspiring workplace for dancers and staff, and a welcoming meeting place for the city. The architectural vision is based on an open and inviting building in which dance takes centre stage, with a large studio overlooking the urban oasis and a second studio facing Beekstraat. At the heart of the building, a central living room forms its social hub, bringing together dancers, staff, visitors and the wider community.
The selection committee particularly praised KRFT’s understanding of Introdans’ day-to-day operations and the way the design intentionally integrates dance and support functions into one connected ecosystem. The proposal also establishes strong links with the site’s cultural and historical significance, drawing inspiration from the Walloon Church, the former St Agnieten Monastery, the renovated Stadstheater, and the post-war reconstruction architecture that characterises the surrounding area.
A new home for dance
Marieke van ‘t Hoff, Managing Director of Introdans, said: “With the new Introdans House, we are creating a place that reflects Introdans’ international standing and its significance to society. KRFT Architecture studio convinced us with a vision that brings together artistic excellence, hospitality and connection. It will become a home for all our employees, and a place where the people of Arnhem can experience the power of dance.”
A cultural boost for Arnhem and Gelderland
Peter Drenth, Deputy for Culture of the Province of Gelderland, congratulated Introdans on this important step towards a new home in Arnhem. “As the leading dance company of the eastern Netherlands, Introdans deserves a high-quality and inspiring rehearsal building close to its audience.”
Between city and silence
Oscar Vos, architect and partner at KRFT Architecture studio: “Introdans is constantly moving between Arnhem and the world. That is why we are designing a place where dancers, choreographers and staff can train, create and collaborate. The building connects the energy of the city with the tranquillity of the Urban Oasis. It is precisely at this intersection that the identity of the Introdans House takes shape.”
Strengthening the Urban Oasis and cultural quarter
Mounia Arkhouch, Alderwoman for Culture of the Municipality of Arnhem: “KRFT Architecture studio’s vision aligns seamlessly with the development of the Urban Oasis and the renovated Stadstheater. It brings together heritage, green space and culture, allowing them to reinforce one another. The result will be a remarkable new place in the heart of our city—for Introdans, for Arnhem, and for the wider region.”
