Introdans pays tribute to Erwin Olaf with a photo exhibition at the Arnhem Museum
12 december 2023
Starting from December 12, Introdans and Museum Arnhem are hosting a tribute to the recently deceased photographer Erwin Olaf (1959-2023) in the free-access exhibition “Erwin Olaf for Introdans.” This exhibition showcases photos that Olaf captured for the Arnhem-based dance company Introdans between 1997 and 2012, which were used as campaign images. The result is a series of stunning, contemporary, and highly recognizable images. He often photographed the movements of the dancers from a fashionable perspective.
The loss of Erwin Olaf, who unexpectedly passed away in September 2023, leaves a profound void, but his work will always continue to inspire. Museum Arnhem and Introdans aim to honor and commemorate the beloved artist once again with this modest exhibition. The photos, including the last picture of the Introdans management that Olaf took in 2021, offer a special insight into his contribution to the Dutch art and dance world.
The Museum Arnhem collection also houses remarkable works by Erwin Olaf. In 2013, a solo exhibition of his work titled “Regressive” was showcased, including the Dutch premiere of the installation “The Keyhole,” a pivotal piece in his oeuvre now included in the Museum Arnhem collection. He also created campaign photos for the museum, including those for the “Ravage” exhibition.
“Erwin Olaf for Introdans” will be on display from December 12, 2023, to January 21, 2024, in the Dome of Museum Arnhem. This is a modest presentation of images commissioned by Introdans and created by Erwin Olaf. Admission to the Dome of Museum Arnhem is free.
