WijkJury Veenendaal visits LARBI
March 30, 2026
Last week, the WijkJury of Theater Lampegiet attended our performance LARBI. It turned into a beautiful and inspiring evening, with meeting and exchange at its heart.
The jury members were welcomed with an introduction by Alberto Villanueva from Introdans’ marketing and PR department. After the performance, they joined a conversation with dancer Giuseppe Calabrese. During this post-show talk, the members of the WijkJury had the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences, and explore the performance in more depth together.
The WijkJury of Theater Lampegiet has been active since 2018 and consists of a diverse group of residents from Veenendaal. The members vary in age and cultural background and attend eight performances each season, from which they ultimately choose their favourite. What makes this group special is that they are not part of the regular theatre audience. Precisely for that reason, they offer a fresh and valuable perspective on the programme.
The jury members come from a wide range of backgrounds, including Togo, Morocco, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Somalia, the Moluccas and the Netherlands. Some were born in Veenendaal, while others have only recently moved to the Netherlands. What connects them is their curiosity and their desire to get to know theatre better.
Before each performance, the jury members receive an introduction from a theatre maker. This helps them to watch with new insights and deepen their experience. Afterwards, they engage in conversation with makers and performers to share their perspectives.
The WijkJury is an initiative by theatre maker Adelheid Roosen, who founded the first WijkJury in Amsterdam in 2009. Since then, it has grown into a national initiative embraced by several theatres, including Theater Lampegiet.
We look back on this special evening with great pleasure and thank the WijkJury for their engagement and open-minded perspective.
