Petricor at De Opening in Apeldoorn

On Saturday 30 August 2025, Introdans will present Petricor by Lucinda Childs at De Opening in Apeldoorn – a crystal-clear choreography set to music by Ludovico Einaudi.

From 29 to 31 August, Apeldoorn will become the beating heart of cultural life in the Netherlands as it hosts the brand-new national opening of the cultural season.

After 45 years in Amsterdam, the Uitmarkt – the traditional season opener – will now rotate annually between different cities. Apeldoorn has the honour of hosting the very first edition of this free festival. Expect a vibrant weekend filled with dance, music, visual arts, and connection — all throughout the city.

Our performance is part of a rich and diverse programme that quite literally turns the city into a stage. Green parks, royal boulevards, and cultural landmarks provide the backdrop for shows and pop-up performances.

About Petricor (2018)
Petricor (named after “the scent that rises when rain falls on dry earth”) is the third work created by the ‘queen of minimal dance’ for Introdans in 2018. Childs was inspired by the composition of the same name by Ludovico Einaudi, well known for his soundtrack to the French film Intouchables. The result is a complex yet feather-light choreography of repeated, classical movements, seemingly floating in space. Her ingenious mathematical patterns are echoed in the stage design by French artist Dominique Drillot – abstract visual artworks that highlight the brilliance of the choreography.

Come along, be surprised, and celebrate the power of dance and culture with us! More information about the full programme will soon be available at deopening.nl.
