From flamenco to contemporary dance 

Growing up in Vilanova del Camí, a small town near Barcelona, Gabriel Parra’s passion for dance was ignited at the age of five when he saw a flamenco show in his hometown. Captivated by the rhythm, the powerful heels, and the expressive style, he immediately knew he wanted to dance. His parents enrolled him in a local dance studio, where his love for flamenco deepened. At twelve, his talent was recognized by his teacher, who encouraged him to audition for the Conservatory of Dance in Barcelona. After two years of intense preparation, Gabriel was accepted, specializing in Spanish dance and flamenco. 

However, after graduating in 2021, Gabriel found himself increasingly drawn to the world of contemporary dance. Intrigued by its potential for expression and movement, he took a bold step and auditioned for IT Dansa, a contemporary dance company. To his delight, he was accepted. The transition from flamenco to contemporary dance was challenging, but it opened up new dimensions of artistic exploration for Gabriel. Over the next three years, he immersed himself in contemporary dance, discovering a new passion that pushed him to explore the boundaries of his craft. 

Relentless drive 

Gabriel’s journey has been fueled by an unwavering passion and determination to excel in dance. Inspired by renowned artists such as Daniel Doña, Ohad Naharin, and Akram Khan, he has continuously pushed himself to reach new heights. For Gabriel, dance is not just a profession; it is a way of life, a medium through which he connects with his innermost self and explores his limits.

He was drawn to the company’s dynamic energy and diverse repertory, which perfectly aligned with his aspirations. “You can see it’s a big family,” he says, “and I want to be part of it.” With his relentless drive to grow, Gabriel is ready to embark on this new journey at Introdans.
