Elaine Meijerink

Born:
2002, Nijmegen (Nederland)
Education:
Koninklijk Conservatorium, Den Haag

Elaine has been determined to become a professional dancer from an early age. She started dancing when she was four and started her professional training six years later at the ArtEZ preparatory course. “I think I inherited my mother’s dance obsession. She also studied at the dance academy in Arnhem. I think her stories inspired me as a child. As a baby I was headbanging in front of the speakers and we have a lot of embarrassing videos of me dancing around the room.”

For Elaine, dance is a special art form, because it allows her to express her feelings physically. “But it’s something that goes beyond shape. Real dance comes from personality, passion and vulnerability.” For Elaine, dance is about making a connection; she transfers the magic of dance to the audience. According to her, beautiful dancing is different from technically good dancing. “When I dance, I hope to connect the aesthetic with humanity.”

In the 2021-2022 season, Elaine dances as an intern in Karole Armitage’s ballet Rave, in the family show Confetti. She appreciates Introdans’ extensive repertoire and thinks it’s cool that she gets so many opportunities to perform on stage during her internship. “I felt like I was visible right away.”
