Sofia Nappi

Sofia Nappi (1994) is part of a new generation of choreographers who are making their mark on the international contemporary dance scene, shaping its future with a distinctive artistic voice. Her work is characterised by a physical, playful and highly visual movement language in which emotion and imagination go hand in hand.

Nappi graduated from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York. During her studies, her close connection with Hofesh Shechter Dance Company and her exploration of Gaga, the movement language developed by renowned choreographer Ohad Naharin, played a fundamental role in shaping her artistic practice. These influences are reflected in her dynamic, multilayered choreographies, which combine virtuosity, spontaneity and humanity.

In 2022, together with her first muses, Paolo Piancastelli and Adriano Popolo, Nappi founded the dance company KOMOCO. As the company’s artistic director, she tours internationally with KOMOCO, presenting its work at leading festivals and venues across Europe, Canada and Mexico, including the Venice Biennale, Romaeuropa Festival, Madrid en Danza, Danse Danse in Montréal and the Belgrade Dance Festival.

Alongside her work for KOMOCO, Nappi creates ballets for internationally renowned dance companies and opera houses. She has choreographed works for Nationaltheater Mannheim, Scottish Dance Theatre, Göteborg Opera, Nederlands Dans Theater 2, Leipzig Ballet, Gauthier Dance and Ballet BC in Vancouver. In 2023, she created the inclusive duet Kemet for Introdans’ HubClub’23 programme.

Nappi is also committed to nurturing emerging dance talent. She teaches workshops and masterclasses around the world and, since 2022, has organised the KOMOCO Intensive in Florence twice a year, bringing together professional dancers from across the globe.

Introdans first discovered the Italian choreographer in 2021 at the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC), where she received the Introdans Partner Award. Following this recognition, Introdans invited her to create a new work for HubClub’23, an inclusive production performed in medium-sized theatres. After its success, a new collaboration was a natural next step. In 2026, Introdans added her 2023 work Tagadà to the programme ENERGY, marking its Dutch premiere.
