Igor Bacovich

Igor Bacovich (Turin, 1982) began his dance training at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome and graduated from CODARTS in Rotterdam. He danced for several Dutch companies over a period of five years, honing both his technique and artistic vision. But his professional journey hasn’t always revolved around dance.

A different path to creativity
For eight years, Bacovich dedicated himself to social work, a period that deeply influenced his creative perspective and inquisitive mind. These experiences gave him valuable insights into human connection and emotion, which continue to shape his artistic work today.

A return to dance with renewed purpose
In 2013, Bacovich returned to the dance world. Together with choreographer Iratxe Ansa, he founded Metamorphosis Dance Company in 2018, a company where dance, technology and social reflection meet. His work is known for its physical intensity, emotional depth and experimental approach to space and movement.

Recognition for a unique voice
In 2021, Bacovich received the Premio Nazionale Sfera D’Oro per la Danza, a prestigious Italian award recognizing his artistic growth and impact as a choreographer.

Introdans
In 2025, Igor Bacovich and Iratxe Ansa created their new work Promises for Introdans. For this world premiere, Bacovich and Ansa collaborated with Spanish set designer Marta Pazos. Colour forms the aesthetic starting point of her scenography. The lyrical movement language of the Italian-Spanish duo comes fully into its own in this piece.

In 2026, Introdans will add the duet Mano a mano to its repertoire. This recent work carries the motto “A tightrope walk between me and you” and is set to the rich music of Astor Piazzolla’s Otoño Porteño. Igor and Iratxe had long wanted to explore this music in a choreography, and they realised that ambition with this ballet.
