An Ode to the Master

December 22 2025

Today, hundreds of people said farewell to Hans van Manen. Family, friends, colleagues and admirers came together to honour a great artist. Someone who did not only create choreographies, but shaped Dutch dance in a lasting way. For many, he was “a living piece of dance history”, a brilliant maker with a sharp eye and a clear, distinctive language.

Alongside a private farewell gathering, the public was also given the opportunity this morning to pay their final respects at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam. Due to the overwhelming response, many were able to walk past his coffin and leave a message in the condolence book. It was a moving moment that showed how much he meant to so many people.

At Introdans, we feel above all deep gratitude. For his work, his trust, and his influence, which continues to resonate in our dancers and in everything we do. His legacy lives on, on stage and beyond.
We will continue to carry it with pride and pass it on to future generations.

Farewell, master.
