On the occasion of our programme ICON, a tribute to the ‘grand old lady’ of American minimalist dance, we will be presenting, starting March 15 2025 in collaboration with Museum Arnhem, an extensive exhibition dedicated to the work of Dominique Drillot, the leading set, lighting, and costume designer who works closely with choreographer Lucinda Childs.
Childs’ movement language is truly unique: in an abstract, almost mathematical way, she creates the most complex masterpieces using relatively simple ballet and athletic movements. The exhibition offers an in-depth look into the creative process of Drillot and Childs and features a diverse collection of their work. Visitors can look forward to:
- Drawings: Detailed sketches illustrating the design phase of his projects.
- Photographs: Images capturing the development of his designs and their final realization on stage.
- Videos: Clips showcasing the dynamic and atmosphere of the performances for which Drillot developed the visual concept.
- Costume designs and objects: Original costumes and designs highlighting his craftsmanship and attention to detail.
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to discover and appreciate the versatility and depth of Drillot’s body of work. It’s a must-see for lovers of theater, dance, and scenography.
Lucinda Childs and Dominique Drillot have collaborated multiple times on various dance productions. Drillot, a French lighting designer and scenographer, has contributed to the visual design of several of Childs’ choreographies. Examples of their collaborations include:
- Canto Ostinato
- Kilar
- Grande Fugue
- Petricor
- Oceana
- Dance
- Symphony of Psalms
- Chairman Dances
- Concerto
- Interior Drama
These collaborations demonstrate the synergy between Childs’ minimalist dance style and Drillot’s visual designs, resulting in unique and memorable performances.
