Introdans breathes new life into the story with contemporary dance, striking visuals and a pace that pulls you in from the very first moment. A story about love and jealousy and suitable for the whole family, from 6 to 106 years old.
Ready for a performance that is just as beautiful to watch as it is to get lost in? The sleek design, Picasso influences and powerful movement language make it a visual treat for the entire family. Check when Carmen is on in Apeldoorn.
A role full of boldness, playfulness and power
According to Juliette Jean, who performs the role of Carmen, Carmen is anything but predictable. “She loves to take control and play with expectations,” she says. “She enjoys playing with men, especially between the bullfighter and Don José.” Choreographer Gustavo even compares her to a bull: “strong and attacking.”
For adults and children alike
The performance is full of fast, precise movements that will appeal to adult dance lovers. At the same time, the story remains clear and exciting for young audiences thanks to recognisable music, strong visuals and a dynamic design. “The story is easy to follow, even for children,” says Juliette.
The visual design also consciously focuses on calm and clarity. The set and costumes are modern, sleek and inspired by the work of Picasso. The abstract shapes and soft colours ensure that the story is easy for everyone to follow. “The scenography makes it very accessible,” Juliette explains. “Even young children understand what they are watching, because the images are so clearly and beautifully built.”
1 hour and 30 minutes full of energy
Juliette is on stage for almost the entire performance. “The biggest challenge is maintaining the physical intensity from start to finish,” she says. The many fast movements and duets demand strength and control, while the emotion must remain believable.
Her favourite moments? The prison scene in which Carmen seduces Don José – “technically challenging, but playful” – and the sensitive love duet later in the performance.
